Welcome to Newport Cemetery
Welcome to the Newport Cemetery website. The Cemetery was organized in 1863 as a For Profit Corporation and later changed to a non-profit association on November 30, 1908. This non-profit corporation, known as the Newport Cemetery Association, continues to be managed by a nine (9) member Board of Directors, all unpaid volunteers. The earliest interments occurred at the time of the Civil War and we continue to serve the community's needs today.
The old cemetery in downtown Newport is also part of our local heritage. It contains graves dating from the early 1800’s through the latter part of the century, so both cemeteries were in use simultaneously for a while. We’ve used data from the Perry Historians to populate our database with as many of those graves as possible. Sadly, age has damaged many of the stones so the information as recorded is sometimes minimal and occasionally up for interpretation. Download the Original Source Document and Working Notes.
It is the Board's hope that this site and the database within will be a valuable resource for genealogical researchers as well as the community in general. A great deal of information has already been added to our database and more is continually being added and quality checked.
